Decisions were made Tuesday and people were selected to serve or continue on to face another challenge the General Election in November. The Primary Election had a good turnout statewide as well as here in Allen.

In one of the most publicized races, Tom Cole soundly defeated his opponents for his seat in the US House of Representatives’ Republican race. Statewide Cole received 64.63% of the votes cast while Paul Bondar earned 25.80%. Also in that race were Nick Hankins with 2.01%, Andrew Hayes, 4.08%, and Rick Whitebear Harris with 3.4%. A total of 62,475 votes were counted.

In November’s General Election Cole will face his Democrat challenger, Mary Brannon, who defeated her Primary challenger Kody Macaulay with 60.68% of the votes cast.

In other races on the Pontotoc/Hughes County ballots, J. Brian Bingman won the Corporation Commission race with 53.42% over Russell Ray and Justin Hornback.

Jonathan Wingard defeated Greg McCortney in the State Senate District 13 race; and Ronny Johns defeated Robert Burch in the State Representative District 25 race.

In the Hughes County Sheriff’s race Trever Teague defeated Daniel Nowlin with 68.84% of the 937 votes cast.
