What’s in a Name???
W.B. Harrington. These are just a few, you probably can name some more.
My initials have always given me problems, the two letters don’t stand for anything. I have been given many nicknames to take their place. I joke and like to say that my folks didn’t think I would ever learn to spell, I showed them! I took the nickname, Dub. I also joke and say I was born during hard times, all they could afford to give me was two letters, either that or they didn’t want my older brother, R.W., to feel bad. My nicknames depend upon the friends that attached the name, from my older brothers and sisters, it was BB, from Johnny and his friends it was just B. It was either Windy Wofford or Buddy Yount who stuck me with the name Dub.
In junior high when Mr. Hokett was teaching at Allen, some of my classmates gave me the name Worley Buck, I believe it was Mr. Hockett’s given name. When in active duty, the Army would not let me get or mail letters until I had a full name. I explained the situation, so they gave me this name, W(Only) B(Only) Borders. To me, it came out Wonly Bonly. What a joke. My uncle R.C. Borders had the same problem in the military. R.W. was lucky, he had a middle name, James. In my adult life I finally just gave up putting the periods with my initials. Even a driver’s license in Oklahoma will not take the periods for a license name.
Last December I encountered another problem with my name. In April of 2023 I started using Cash App to send money. When signing up with Cash App, I gave the name W B Borders. After using it for many months with no problems, in December of 2024, the app wants me to identify myself. They will not take just letters as name. I have been trying since then to
