Memorial Day Week
The Memorial Day holiday was this week. It is always the most traveled one of the year. It was on the news Saturday night that 38,000,000 will be traveling this year in the United States. Four million of this number were expected to be traveling by air. These numbers are just mind boggling. Of course, just after I saw these numbers on the news, I saw the weather report for the week. It was predicted that there would be storms and heavy rain, but since plane reservations have to be made in advance, it is not possible to wait to see what the weather is doing the day you plan to travel.
It has not been many years that I also was one of those that traveled on that day. We left early to get to one cemetery in time to put out flowers before the program started. As soon as the program was over, we were off to the cemetery in the town where I grew up to check on the other graves there. Then on to a town where other relatives were buried. This was a day also that we expected to see other relatives who were out for the same reasons that we were. There was a lot of visiting done.
This is one holiday that flags are out on city streets and in front of homes. The local volunteer firemen have been very diligent about this special service.
It is always a full day.
