Yard Work
Spring has come and summer will be here before we know it. Grass has turned green and the mowing has begun. Flower beds need to be cleaned out to get them ready for all the new growth. The weather in the evenings is nice to again sit on the deck and watch all the activities that take place in the yard. We have some bird houses and feeders and it is nice to watch the birds in the yard. It is a place I like to be late in the afternoon. This is the time of year that the yard work has also begun.
A hen is the only creature I know that yard work is probably the only thing that they are not fazed by. Yard work means nothing to a hen. Regardless of the weather, or the season of the year, the hen keeps on digging and laying eggs.
If the ground is hard, she scratches harder. If the ground is dry, she digs deeper. If the ground is wet, she will find a spot to dig that does not have water in it. If she strikes a rock, she will dig around it. And, she will dig as long as there is any daylight.
Have you ever seen a pessimistic hen? Have you ever seen a hen cackle in disgust at the prospect of her job? Did you ever hear one cluck because the work was hard, the conditions were poor and some of her eggs were taken from her before they were hatched?
No. Hens save their breath for digging. They save their cackles for the eggs that are laid.
So what is the point of this story? The secret of success is to start from scratch and keep on digging.
