Storm Debris Cleanup Update.....
After the storm earlier in the month the hard job of clearing debris has begun. State officials from DEQ and FEMA were on site early in the process dictating where the town could stack the debris and how it was to be separated. As it was later discovered the event was not declared a disaster by the state there are no funds available to help get rid of the items.
Because the land that was marked for debris was unfenced the mounds of debris ranged from building material, limbs, insulation and vegetive (limbs and brush) and other debris were just drug there for the town to pay for the disposal of. The limbs can be burned but other building material has to be deposited in a prescribed location. The hauling and landfill fees will be incurred by the town. At present the town is having a trouble finding a landfill that will accept such items as insulation and shingles. All of this is slow process and will prove to be quite costly to the town.
While we are wanting to get things back to normal as soon as possible, remember the five city workers also have to make sure the water and sewer systems are working correctly every day. They are working hard with the clean up as well as their other duties.
Your patience, understanding and cooperation is appreciated.
