Softball Playoffs Start Next Week

The Allen/Calvin softball team took the long bus ride to Wayne last Friday and brought home a 9-5 win.

Wayne and Allen traded runs in the first through 3 innings when Allen took the lead for good. Allen had 12 hits in the game and an uncharacteristic 4 errors. Kaylee Davis and Kryslyn Stephens combined for the win in the circle while striking out 4 and giving up 9 hits in seven innings. Senior Ava Laden went 2 for 4 with an inside the park home run and picked up 3 RBIs in the contest. Cherish Woodward and Addison Prentice each had doubles. Davis went 3-4 at the plate. They picked up eight stolen bases in the game: Norman 2, Mowdy 2, Prentice 2, Stephens 1 and Nickell 1.

Monday the team welcomed a tough good hitting Tupelo team to the Calvin field where things didn’t go so well for the good guys.

Allen/Calvin 1 – Tupelo 10 in a run rule shortened game.

Allen had only 3 hits in the contest with Tresley Mowdy picking up the lone RBI. Kaylee Davis took the loss giving u p 11 hits and 9 runs, striking out 4. Stephens pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up 3 hits and 1 run.

Tuesday was another long bus trip this time to Rock Creek where we lost 13-5. Ava Laden went 3-3 in the game with 2 doubles and a single. Allen was the first to score in the game when Kayla Nickell laid down a sacrifice bunt scoring Laden. After Rock Creek came back, Allen made the score 4-2 in the top of the second when Laden doubled scoring 2 runs and Nickell hit a sac fly to score the 4th run for the team. In the fifth inning Kaylee Davis singled to tie the game at 5 but that was the end of the scoring for Allen. Rock Creek went crazy in their half of the inning scoring 8 runs to take the 13-5 win.

Cherish Woodward started in the circle, she surrendered 10 hits and eight runs striking out 2 and issuing 3 walks. Along with Ladens 3 hits, Davis 1, Winningham 1, Stephens 1.

Thursday the team travels to Coalgate for an important District game with Coalgate and Tishomingo. A win could move Allen/Calvin into the #2 slot in districts. Regional selection will be released Monday with Regionals to be played on Thursday and Friday. Calvin will host the Wetumka game Friday, Allen will travel to Roff on Monday and on Tuesday A s h e r will come to t o w n where the teams 2 seniors, Ava Laden and Lilly Matthews will be honored before the contest.

Ava Laden has been a force at the plate lately.
