Different Strokes
I was just reading about how folks across the plains are taking the election results of last week. Reminds me of 1944 when the papers (back east) whined and moaned how our “system” allowed such a mental midget (Truman) to replace our late great Roosevelt.
He was who he was. But the republicans at the next election ran a guy named Thomas E. Dewey — a republican intellectual smart enough to lead us through the hard times ahead. It was just an accepted fact that old Harry didn’t have the brains to do it. Not near enough. The Washington Post headline the day after the polls closed proclaimed Dewey to be our new president. They were wrong. Truman won big.
The word around Centrahoma was that Dewey had a “Hitler” looking mustache. In my 4th grade classroom we hated Dewey. Dewey indeed, looked a little like Adolph Hitler.
But there were editorials in eastern newspapers lamenting our rural midwestern stupidity and fearing for America’s future, but Truman went on and became a great president. Now it seems that Trump has turned over the apple cart, too. Classes were turned out at Yale and at a multitude of other liberal universities so students could campaign and work for Harris. The polls showed her doing well.
But the hated Trump won anyway. It is no shock that classes have again been suspended at Yale. Special “mourning rooms” were set up so these students could receive professional help and comfort. Sort of like in our local grammar schools when some little kid dies.
Their fearful predictions? Trump will set up an autocracy. End our democracy. That he will rule by decree. No more elections. I hate it that liberals are in such a psychological mess. They’re wallowing in hate — thinking Trump may not go to prison now. In Eugene, Oregon little “comforting” plush ducks are being given out for comfort toys to these affected UO liberal students. True story.
I hope our new president elect doesn’t re-enact my concerns like he did in his last term. While doing a lot of good things, such as the Border Wall, using good sense on the economy and taking pretty good care of our foreign policies, he disappointed me with his headline making misuse of the internet late at night. He could well take some time and learn how to be more “presidential” and pay attention to what he is saying. Or is that just me?
Meanwhile, have a good week and be sure and go to church Sunday.
