Whether Weather

Posted in:

August is here. Yes, it had to elbow itself in and crowd out July for weather news. Most of our TV stations report temperatures as to what it feels like. Hot. But it doesn’t change what the weather actually is. Weather news is actually spun to be “colder” in the winter and “hotter” in the summer months because it helps the ratings numbers for the TV stations and furthers their political agenda.

Yes, the politicians who are against the oil barons and big oil in general are promoting the use of electricity for cars, trains and even airplanes. They would phase out all oil production if they could. Trying to “cool” things down? These are some of the same folks who wish to drain Lake Mead, restore its lake bottom to its “pre-lake” splendor.

Many engineers and scientists worry that such political social engineering is dangerous and needs to consider how much of the dreaded carbonbased fuels it takes to make electricity. Many of our educated voters wonder where their grown-up leaders are. But it’s not rocket science. Science has made it easy to measure such things about power and electricity in very precise ways. And when it comes to precise measuring it doesn’t look so good for electricity after all. Solar and wind come up way short when you speak of making millions of megawatts of power. America needs to be very careful as we venture into this very unclear future. These moves have to consider the laws of physics, and this requires the use of some common sense. I think such sloppy and irresponsible policies as we see coming forth out of Washington lately are a threat to our actual survival as a prosperous and free society.

No argument that the planet and our oceans have been and are warming up over the past Millenia. We just need to put politics and our “Bambi” obsessions aside and deal with global warming like adults. When it comes to us, America, being able to do this by ourselves, forget it. The world’s biggest polluters such as China, India and on in Asia are nonparticipants in this carbon war and until they are sign on we need to man up and realize we can’t do all this carbon reduction by ourselves. It can be compared to the old “Joke” of trying to keep the swimming pool clean by designating which corner we can “P” in.

How bad is this? Well, we have the raging non-scientist radical Al Gore leading this fight against big oil. He’s pretty sure if we could shut down the oil industry and just run on solar and wind things would be OK. The world would not heat up anymore and all would be well. Yes, his presence as appointed energy czar reminds us that we need to be a lot more thoughtful and careful who we elect to these important offices in our government. While Gore’s bid for the presidency was barely averted, he later got Biden to appoint him to this position in government so he can still implement his hairbrained ideas.

This week the island of Maui has been virtually destroyed by wildfires. TV news footage shows how horrible it looks and is. What’s to blame? Decades of neglect of our forest floors. Our earth is vast and much of the things happening to it may well be beyond our control. I’m not too sure mankind on his own, can overcome the measures of checks and balances installed by our creator, God. But we have, in our ignorance, sure messed up in how we care for this beautiful ecosystem He gave us to live on. A place we call our home. Earth.

Have a good week and be sure and go to church on Sunday.
