One Pharmacist’s View
“Your friends are worried about you.” Anyway, that’s what people say when they want to bad mouth you. That was sort of the way one of one newspaper in (Israel) decided to comment on what they see has happened to Americans. First of all, the writer of this paper which enjoys good circulation in the USA points out how America has been so blessed for the past 75 or 80 years. You know, we won the big war. Then turned right around and rescued those we vanquished. We spent billions of dollars helping Germany and Japan rebuild their cities and we got their economy going in short order.
The economy never had been so good, and prosperity has reigned across our fruited plain. He said we energized the world and our pioneering in space exclaimed our advances in science. Our politicians often disagreed but always were civil to one another and needed laws and appropriations were passed. But then, according to him, everything changed in America. All of a sudden American Democrats and Republicans went for each other throats. Thirty percent of Democrats don’t think Biden won the presidential election. 70% of Republicans don’t either, in spite of recounts galore plus court actions all over the place.
So now the thing that defined American politics forever is a thing of the past. We’re now fighting over politics ad-nauseum. What about law and order? In 1956 I flew into the country from Japan. I walked around San Francisco. Man, I thought, what a wonderful place. Everything was clean. People well dressed. Order was everywhere. I remember thinking how happy I was to be an American and to be in Is God Punishing Us? the place where I was at that moment.
The “Post” notes that all that is in the past tense. Americans have gone gun crazy. I asked a gun guy recently what he wanted with all those guns. “Protection,” he said. “From what? The government. One of these days they are going to come after us,” he said. “Really,” I said. “You don’t need protection in American from the government just vote the rascals out next election.” “You can’t do that anymore the elections are now all crooked. And I hunt with my guns too. I need them.”
But the Jerusalem Post also noted our weather has all gone to pot too. Seems like every week there is a new weather crisis in America. The desert southwest is burning up in a record drought yet for the past three weeks Las Vegas has suffered flash floods. Their casinos are underwater. But Lake Mead is nearly bone dry. Not only will they not have water anymore, but their electricity will also go off. Crops are all dead and people will surely starve. The writer further notes that the weather is normal in Canada and Mexico. Tornadoes? They’re everywhere. Even in New York City and Washington D.C.
Homeless? Why should hundreds of thousands of people be homeless in the wealthiest country in the world? In L. A. there are 110,000 people camped under every freeway overpass and thousands more strewn out on their (former) pristine beaches. In New York City, there are 91,000 homeless and they literally sleep on the streets. Reading all this, I am by now worried. The writer thinks God is doing this and is doing it because Americans have pretty much stopped going to their churches.
I’m sure many Americans reading this are wishing they had known all this in advance as they, just as I, liked America as it was. Then we could have stayed in church, the weather would be OK, and my friend wouldn’t have been out so much money buying expensive AK-47s and those M-15 assault rifles. The politicians could kiss and make up and American could be great again. Sounds easy enough.
I enjoy hearing from my readers and hope you all have a good week. Be sure and go to church Sunday. We need the rain.
