Cold times for Global Warming

Posted in:

Maybe it is the weather that is doing it, but I can’t seem to get all warmed up this spring. The news last week says we are a full and complete whole degree Fahrenheit warmer compared to just last year but I have to go by what is happening now. All respect to Al Gore, I am cold. I am starting to be concerned that the flowers I put out this past weekend will even grow. My son-in-law’s garden has been completely frozen out (and abandoned) so there went “that” particular little avenue of pleasure.

No, I am not a scientist. I really do not have the intellect to comprehend all the factors that conglomerate to make up what Mr. Gore calls “global warming” nor to contest it. But one more time, let me say, it is cool out there and for those of you trying to open up your swimming pools and other summer activities, keep your coat on. It is 52ºF this morning and it’s 9:00 AM. I mean, “Good grief.”

I have to remind the Oklahoma City TV stations, whose newsrooms are dominated by the OSU loving Ogle family, that yes, OSU — the “Orange Power” team lurking in the shadows up in Stillwater did get their rear ends pretty soundly beaten by our beloved OU Sooner Women. Even after ejecting coach Gasso over her “polite” objections to a blatantly incorrect 3 rd base call by the umpire which was replayed several times on TV to a national audience. It was never corrected but made for great entertainment to us all. Anyway, congratulations to both teams for the greatest of efforts in this latest in Bedlam.

And then there is this: The Pandemic. We waited and we waited some more and at last it gets here. Enough COVID-19 shots for all. But alas, we forgot one thing. There apparently is a fear of this “saving grace.” We should have seen this coming, but I sure did not. I can remember well back in the 1940s and even later how we hoped and prayed for someone (such as Jonas Salk) to rise from the masses and invent a cure for polio. A shot perhaps. Anything whatsoever to deliver us from the fear of death and paralysis of our children and population at large. Finally, it happened. A vaccine was developed, and it seemed to work. We did not know for sure but by golly we all lined up to get this lifesaving shot. Why? Well, I think it was partly desperation and partly faith in our leadership. What a great time it was in America.

That was then and this is now. The next big thing, as I remember, was the development of a safe MMR shot. It was such a good thing that it was made compulsory for school children. But woah! Civil rights lawyers found a fruitful new field of practice guarding our civil liberties (and making money) so finally all you had to do to skip the shots and still make them admit your kids to school was simply state you did not want it. Same way with the wonderful Measles vaccine. So now the formerly eradicated measles is back along with whooping cough and other assorted killers we thought we had overcome.

Of course, the same faulty reasoning is now again threatening the wellness and safety of our country. People even say, “Heck, my doctor doesn’t even like these shots.” I say, this, “What doctor?” What educated person wants to fall back to the middle ages and all that misery? I say, let us quit this childish behavior, step up and get our shots.

I mean! Good Grief!
