Hold that Pledge to the Flag

I’ve been receiving calls every night and day from the University of Oklahoma. They want to know when I plan on mailing my annual pledge in. Well it’s not a humongous amount and it will not bankrupt them if I continue to dither on the gift. But one pledge may deserve another.

Last month the OU Student Congress voted to stop, nay ban the pledging of allegiance to the American flag. And they did. Gabi Thompson said it violated the first amendment of our Constitution. She sort of copied this off a University out at Santa Barbara, California who recently banned the “pledge” too. Their leader said the pledge is “racist.” Don’t know where she got that but that’s what she said. Meanwhile, I think I shall just dither some more on my own pledge.

At another school (Ocean Side, New York) a gathering of school kids resulted in one 16 year old boy receiving a stab wound to his chest. The 18 year perpetuator stood and watched the boy struggling on the ground before walking away. A crowd of about 50 other “kids” stood around and videoed the event on their cameras. Can’t let a photo op like this get by you know. No one rendered any aid to the boy on the ground who eventually bled out and died. I guess it’s a sign of the times. But I don’t think that would happen in Oklahoma.

Meanwhile, the Presidential race sputters on. A 2nd whistleblower has emerged, courtesy of CNN. According to “sources” he knows “everything.” Some of these same people are worried about President Trump bucking “decorum.” Decorum? I never had noticed the president worrying much about decorum or acting “presidential.” The President continues to “tweet” almost nonstop about himself, his enemies and his policies as president. I don’t look for him to let up on any of his activities in this manner, although I wish he would. We could easily “tar” them with the same brush as we do with Nancy Pelosi’s Congress. Not getting anything done. Just fighting. But that’s what the Democrats enjoy doing so often. And can we enter a guilty plea for the Republicans? Well maybe, but I have to admit that Mr. Trump has just about done all he said he would do when he was running for this offi ce in spite of very little to no support from Congress.

Congressman Schiff quoted Trump’s call to President Zelensky of the Ukraine incorrectly to the congressional committee. Schiff has really dug in on this and with no one to call him down on the “quotes” he just goes on. Nancy was unruffled when it was shown that Schiff had quoted the story wrong but said it was mostly correct in its gist. That’s when the President said Pelosi was a traitor and that she should be impeached. I’m not too sure how but I guess it made him feel good.

But enough is enough. Now the talk is about just who is too old to be President? Let’s see here. At the moment Trump is 73. Biden is 76 and Bernie is 78. The average age of all past presidents is 55. Bernie made us all notice these ages. He had a heart attack last week. I had told my wife Pat that he was on the edge of one during the last debate. His face was totally red. He looked like he was short of air and was suffering. But will he hang it up? Naw. He knows he won’t get elected but he will campaign on. Next debate is October 15. We’ll see how that goes.

Meanwhile, I hope you all enjoy the nice and cooler weather. And be sure and go to church next Sunday. You’ll be glad you did.
