Mustangs Win Tourney First Round Games

Continuing their winning ways, the Allen basketball teams swept Asher last Friday and opened the Pontotoc County Conference tournament with wins over Tupelo.

In the girl’s game against Asher, the freshmen led the way. Addison Prentice scored 18 points followed by Cherish Woodward with 11. “We were able to get almost into the scoring column, and we played hard on the defensive side,” said Coach Dottie Slabaugh. The Lady Mustangs won 59-28. Stoney Cully grabbed 10 rebounds and 2 steals and Woodward had 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

Again, every Mustangs saw action in the game. “We jumped out early, we got a good experience for some of our younger guys tonight,” said Coach Greg Mills.

The Allen Ladies rolled over the Tupelo girls 73-3. Next up for the Lady Mustangs is a rematch with Calvin Thursday at 4. “We will have to play well defensively and limit turnovers to win against Calvin,” said Coach Slabaugh.
