Mustangs Host Stratford this Friday
The Allen Mustangs were unsuccessful in the season opener to Elmore City last Friday losing 28-14.
Allen fell behind 2 scores before finally hitting paydirt on a 1-yard dive by quarterback Bodee Garrett. The extra point failed, and the Mustangs took a 12-6 deficient into the half.
In the second half it was the same story as the Badgers scored twice before the Mustangs QB had a 53-yard scoring run. The extra point was a 3-yard pass from Garrett to Jagger Caldwell.
The penalties and turnovers played a huge part in the Mustangs loss. Timely penalties extended the Badgers drives or in the reverse killed drives for the Mustangs. “Lots of hard lessons were learned during the game. We are going to keep going and get better, continue to grow as a team,” said Coach Matt McCreary. The Mustangs lost Lance Johnson due to a shoulder injury for an undisclosed amount of time.
The Mustang offense racked up 249 yards, slightly less than Elmore City’s 263 yards.
The Mustangs will host Stratford this Friday. The Bulldogs suffered a 222-6 loss to Coalgate in week 1. Kickoff is slated for 7:30.
