Local Students getting ready for Pontotoc County Fair
RCB Band to Perform Saturday Night The Pontotoc County Fair kicks off today (Thursday, August 22nd) with all the theme of “All Roads Lead To Fun!” The three day event, Thursday to Saturday, features exhibits, rides and, of course, the showing of animals for area FFA and 4-H students.
Allen FFA and 4-H students will be among the youth showing their animals beginning on Friday at 1:00 p.m. with the Sheep Show. Locals showing are Cameron Batey, Maddison Crabtree and Brady Crabtree.
Saturday starts with the Goat Show at 10:00 a.m. and Allen kids showing will be Brakstin Horton, Alleigh Horton, Layne Smith, Hunter Langley, Harley Langley, Taylor Batey, Peyton Lewis, Brinley Nemecek, Abbie Nemecek, Mario Gonzalez, Eddie Gonzalez and Isabella Gonzalez.
The Cattle Showing begins at 3:00 p.m. and among the entrees is Maebree Howard.
The Awards Presentation is that evening at 8:00 p.m.
The Fair has a lot to offer in addition to the showing of farm animals. At 6:00 p.m. Thursday is the PAWS Dog Show. Categories will include Most Appropriately Named, Best Trick, Best Behaved, Muttliest Dog, Dog/Owner Look-Alike, and then Best in Show.
This is followed at 6:30 with a free Watermelon Feed sponsored by the County Commissioners, and at 7:00 p.m. by the naming of the 2024 4-H Royalty. Thursday evening ends with music by Cowboy Jim Garland and Susanne Wooley.
The fair continues on Friday with a performance by the Oklahoma Trotters and Aerials from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Convention Center, the Kids Pedal Tractor Pull at 7:00 at the Outdoor Stage, and a 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Cornhole Tournament at the Big Red Barn. At 8:30 the Billy K Band will perform on the Outdoor Stage.
Saturday activities include another Cornhole Tournament at 11:00 a.m., a Kids Ninja Warrior Contest at 2:00 p.m., a Cosplay Costume Contest at 4:00, and music by Allen’s own RCB Band at 7:00, followed by the presentation of special awards to 4-H and FFA students. The Fair ends with the RCB Band on the Outdoor Stage again at 9:00 and the closing of the mid-way at 11:00 p.m.
