Gentle Thoughts for Today

Posted in:
Around Town...by John Bill Martin

The time for New Year’s Resolutions is past, but it is never too late to share some thoughts about how to improve the quality of our lives, no matter which birthday we have or will celebrate.

I can’t even keep up with what I am supposed to do TODAY, much less maintain order for an entire year. But my hat is off (even though it does reveal the hole in my hair) to those who stubbornly insist that THIS is the year they are going to lose weight, clean out the garage, put in a garden, get a haircut, wash the car, stay away from a Taylor Swift concert and eat less candy (except for licorice and orange slices).

Here are some thoughts that might help temper some of the harsher resolutions:

A penny saved is a government oversight. The older you get,

The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because your body and your

fat have gotten to be really good friends

The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a

replacement.

He who hesitates is probably right. If you can smile when things go wrong,

you probably have someone in mind to blame.

The sole purpose of a child’s middle name is so he can tell when he’s really in

trouble.

Did you ever notice when you put the words THE and IRS together, it spells

THEIRS?

Aging: Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age

and start bragging about it. Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know “why” I look this way. I’ve traveled a long way and some of the roads were rocky and weren’t paved.

When you are dissatisfied and want to go back to your youth, think of

Algebra!

You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.

One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice

change from being young. Ah, being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.

Lord, keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth….

RECIPE FOR HAPPINESS

Take a 10-30 minute walk (or jog) each day and while you walk, SMILE. It is

the ultimate anti-depressant.

Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Talk to God about what is

going on in your life. Buy a lock if you have to.

Eat more food that grows on trees or plants and eat less food that is

manufactured in plants.

Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon,

broccoli, almonds and walnuts.

Try to make at least three people smile each day.

Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the

past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in a positive peaceful moment.

Eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and dinner like a college kid with

a maxed out charge card.

Life isn’t fair, but it is still good!

Life is too short to waste hating someone.

Don’t take yourself so seriously; no one else does.

You are not so important that you have to win every game. Agree to disagree.

Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present and the future.

Don’t compare your life with others. You have no idea what their journey is all

about.

No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

Frame every socalled disaster with these words: “In five years, will any of this

matter?”

Forgive everyone for everything.

What other people think of you is none of your business.

However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and relative

will. Stay in touch!

Remember: You are too blessed to be stressed.

When you are feeling down, start listing your many blessings. You’ll be

smiling before you know it.
