Graveside service for Henry “Fred” Whitehead, 83, of Lawton will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9th, at Allen Cemetery, Allen, Oklahoma. Mr. Whitehead passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 in Lawton.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Henry Fred Whitehead was born on August 25, 1942 in Allen, Oklahoma to Marshall Clayborn and Estella Mae (Cook) Whitehead. He grew up in Allen where he attended school. After graduating high school, he served his country in the United States Air Force for eight years and then worked for a while at Tinker Air Force Base before beginning his career with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Department where he was assigned to the Lawton district. Mr. Whitehead was promoted to supervisor and later assigned to the H.E Bailey Turnpike and then to Accident and Records and later the Motor Vehicle Inspection Department, retiring in December of 1996 after 26 years of dedicated service.

He later worked for Regional Air as an airplane mechanic and later served as a U.S. Air Marshall. Fred married Shirley Rogers in 1984 in Las Vegas, Nevada and they lived in Lawton. He had a great love for old military vehicles and loved to fly, earning his private pilot license. Fred was also a black belt in Karate.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Whitehead, of the home; his son, Robert Whitehead, of Texas; his daughter, Michelle Curb, of Texas; his stepson, Darren Fehring and spouse, David Gonzales, of Houston, Texas; his stepdaughter, Tonja Sullivan, of Sterling, Oklahoma; his grandchildren; greatgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepdaughter, Terri Hawk; and his brothers and sisters.
