During the regular meeting of the Allen Board of Education held November 11th, High School/Junior High Principal Steve Butcher said Allen students who attend college after graduation have been successful and done well.

All board members were present, along with Superintendent Jeff Hiatt, Butcher, and Treasurer and Minutes Clerk Brenda Robertson. Butcher delivered the annual, state required “Remediation and Dropout Report.”

During fiscal year 2024, Allen Public Schools did not have any dropouts, which, Superintendent Jeff Hiatt said, is great news.

The remediation report was from fiscal year 2023 as that is the latest data from the Oklahoma regents of higher education. The report shows in 2021-22, Allen’s senior class had an average ACT score of 16.5 with all 29 seniors taking the test.

Butcher said Allen had nine students go on to college from that class and those nine students averaged a 3.19 GPA their freshman year which was this highest freshmen GPA in Pontotoc County.

Butcher went on to say that Allen students that attend college after graduation have been successful and done well. Of those nine students that attended college, only one student had to take a remediation class due to ACT test scores.

Hiatt gave an update on the roof situation.

“We are on the last building — the auditorium — and are expected to finish up next week. This has been going on since July 1st. Every building on campus has all brandnew roofs along with all new guttering and down spouts. Every building now matches as all buildings have the same colors and black accent — Black and Gold. This is great as we had numerous buildings that were at the end of their life and were going to have to be replaced. We were able to also put up awnings on all entrances to buildings.”

Hiatt also spoke about updates to the softball and baseball facilities.

“We have added press boxes at each location,” Hiatt said. “We are fixing some gates and fences at the baseball field. At the softball field, we added shading to the grandstands and built a batting/pitcher cage. We plan to fix up the concession and lockerroom area as well. We also added new security gates around campus replacing a lot of broken and outdated gates and adding new gates to secure our campus for our students.”
