Basketball season has finally arrived. The Allen teams started their season at the Pontototc County Conference Tournament this week. The boys earned an 11-point win over Stonewall while the girls wrecked Roff 6822.

The boys tipped off late Monday in the Tupelo gym against an always tough Stonewall team. The Allen team started off strong earning a 16-9 point lead in the first quarter. In the middle two stanzas Stonewall and Allen went basket for basket both scoring 12 in the second and 17 in the third quarter. Again, in the fourth quarter the Mustangs outscored the Longhorns 11-7 to earn the 56-45 win. Landon Tenequer scored 19 points to lead Allen.

“I felt pretty good about this game, it was our first outing while this was Stonewall’s 7th game. We must work on getting basketball shape, we did a lot of substituting to help keep the kids fresh,” said Coach Greg Mills. Tuesday afternoon the Lady Mustangs started their 24-25 campaign with a win over Roff. The Lady Mustangs who are the second seed behind Vanoss, dominated from the opening tip. Allen simply just had the ball more than Roff. The Lady Mustangs put up 65 shots while allowing Roff to shoot only 20 shots and forced 24 turnovers. Senior Kaylee Davis led all scorers with 19 points. Stephens and Cully each had 5 rebounds.

The teams are in the semifinals and play Thursday at Tupelo. The girls will face Stonewall, and the men will play Vanoss. Championship games of the tournament are Saturday 5:30 and 7.

Allen will come home on December 10 when they host Wetumka. Also, Santa will be in the lobby for photos $10 for digitally instant digital download. This is a fundraiser for the Basketball boosters. Also, the theme for the game is Christmas so come in your best Christmas outfit.
