Amy Mayhue said, after Mike Minton resigned, she took over the music class.

“I have a third- and fourth-grade music class and I’m teaching that class every day,” Mayhue said. “And so, I decided, crazy as I am, that I would do a musical with them. So, we are in auditions, full swing right now, for Seussical the Musical. We will be performing it (April 24th). I’m super excited about it, the kids are excited. It’s a whole new thing for them; they’ve never done anything like this. They’re really excited about it.”

Mayhue said the school’s new math curriculum is going really, really well.

“Our teachers are very happy with it,” Mayhue said. “They feel like they know what’s going on a lot more than they ever have.”

Mayhue had high praise for the teachers and students, and indicated that the last summativeassessments (used to evaluate student learning, skill acquisition, and academic achievement at the conclusion of a defined instructional period) taken before the tests were very positive. The state of Oklahoma says students should be either proficient or advanced.

“In third grade it was 100% proficient or advanced,” Mayhue said, “not a single kid was non-proficient. In fourth grade, same thing, proficient or advanced across the board. Fifth grade, it was 96% proficient or advanced, but that’s like one or two kids not proficient, there’s not a lot of kids in that grade level. But I want to say is, that yes, they were 96%, but the class that has the nonproficient students in it, they were at 31% at the beginning of the year, and now they’re at 92%. So, I am pleased and very proud to go from 31 to 92. I’m very proud of them. They are excited, they can’t wait to come by the office and tell me how the kids have done.”
