Have you seen our “man about town” Adam Colbert? He’s looking mighty fine sporting a new haircut!

We never heard a final count of the garage sales this past weekend but the weather sure cooperated. It was a beautiful weather to be out and about, either shopping or selling.

We’re glad to hear Corby King is home following his hospital stay in the Integris Burn Unit.

Fall is always a fun and busy time around Allen. Our Mustangs are 3-and-2 on the season and making us proud with their team spirit. This week the Wewoka Tigers are coming to town.

The Tigers are one of the few high schools that have young ladies playing on their football team. To keep from having to forfeit games due to a lack of players, two seniors girls stepped in to help.

Natalie Davis and Callie Ramsey didn’t hesitate to suit up.

Wewoka Coach Bryan Couch said, “They’re fully part of the team. There’s no distinction between them.” And no need to worry, the girls have their own special locker room.

It’s been a long time, but the Mustangs once had a girl on their team. Heather Johnson suited up and played junior high football.

Next weekend will be a very busy time in Allen. Friday night is Homecoming but the excitement will be an all-day event.

Starting at 9:00 a.m., nurses from the Chickasaw Nation will be on hand to give free flu shots. These will be available at City Hall, and they will be offering both the regular shot and high dose vaccine recommended for senior citizens. Each shot recipient will be entered into a drawing for $50 or a gift basket from Small Town Designs.

In the afternoon the Homecoming Parade will make its way through downtown at 2:00; lineup is at 1:30. The theme this year is “Drive Thru the Liberty Tigers: Fast Food Franchises.” If individuals, businesses, or organizations outside the school would like to enter floats in the parade, please contact Allie Plunk at aplunk@allenmustangs.org as soon as possible.

And of course the Continue Page 3 parade will be followed by a pep assembly on the field at 2:30!

Then at 6:00 the coronation will be held. One of four young ladies will be crowned Homecoming Queen. Up for the honor are senior Brooklyn Sanders, escorted by Tagus Howard; junior Malloree Howard and her escort Easton Ledo; sophomore Stoney Cully and escort Brodrey Goodson; and freshman Alyssa Royalty and escort Noah Bray.

Then the Mustangs will take on the Liberty Tigers.

Then it’s Halloween. This year Trick-or-Treat in Allen will be on Saturday, October 29th. The change was made so school kids can enjoy the evening without parents bothering them about bedtimes.

And if that wasn’t enough excitement for a weekend, Saturday is the 5th Annual Zombie Run!

The Town of Allen, in conjunction with the Chickasaw Nation’s “Define Your Direction”, will be sponsoring the event.

Free and open to all ages, the Zombie Run will begin at 5:00 p.m. with registration starting at 4:30 at the old gym on Denver Street. Come see if you can race through the zombie-infested path. All runners will be given a lifeline (otherwise known as three flags) at the start. They must then reach the end of the race without getting eaten (getting all their flags snatched by a zombie). Should a zombie take all of a runner’s flags they are deemed infected.

Come early for registration and if you need help with your make-up there will be people on hand to assist.

After the race and the awarding of medals, the action will move to the city park were Cheyenne Durant, a storytelling specialist with the Chickasaw Nation, will be entertaining with ghost stories. Hot dogs will be served free of charge and all of that will be followed with a Haunted Trail at dark.

It’s gonna be so much fun it’s spooky!
