After executive session at its regular meeting Monday, the Allen Board of Education rehired several members of Allen Schools’ administrators and faculty.

For the fiscal year 2023-24, the board rehired Superintendent Jeff Hiatt, High School/ Junior High Principal Steve Butcher, Elementary School Principal Amy Mayhue, District Treasurer Brenda Robertson, and Encumbrance Clerk/Activity Fund Custodian Lisa Cundiff.

Administrative Reports

Administrative reports were delivered by Hiatt, Butcher and Mayhue.

Hiatt said since the January board meeting, Allen Schools has enrolled five new students to the district.

He said Ada Farm Bureau agents are going to fund Allen Schools with an Air Evac insurance policy (free) for all student organizations and their sponsors/coaches.

“This would cover our students on trips and sporting events if there ever was a lifethreatening injury,” Hiatt said.

Hiatt said the school system is replacing the roofs on the front and back of the junior high gym.

“It has been leaking, and insurance is covering it,” he said.

Hiatt said the school system’s annual audit is Thursday.

Steve Butcher

Butcher spoke to the board about academic, athletic and livestock happenings.

“The Academic Team won their District, Regional, and Area Tournaments, and the placed third in the State Academic Meet,” Butcher said.

Butcher said both boys and girls won the Allen Tournament and The Stringtown Tournament.

“The boys won their District while the girls were runners-up,” he said. “Both teams play in the Regional Tournament this week in Quinton on Thursday. Girls at 1:30 and the Boys at 7:30.”

Butcher told the board that Taylor Wood was recognized as the Region B Scholar Athlete and received a $500 scholarship.

“FCCLA took 18 competitors to a Regional Meet where 16 of them placed: 4 -1st places, 4-2nd, 1-3rd, 1-4th,” Butcher said. “All 16 that placed are qualified to go to the State Competition.”

At the recent Regional Livestock Show, 10 animals were shown by Allen students and selected for the Premium Sale, Butcher said.

Butcher finished his report by saying the Junior High Academic Teams competed at the District and Regional Meets after a three-year absence.

Amy Mayhue

Mayhue said the elementary school has been busy this semester already. “From completing middle of the year assessments to honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., the students have been hard at work,” she said. “The elementary is focusing on our writing standards this semester and challenging students to be creative in their own personal writing.”

Mayhue said students have completed many writing assignments and shared them with their classmates.

“Parents should see these in the Tuesday folders with graded papers,” she said. “Our GT students took a trip to the Chickasaw Nation Science, Math, and Technology building last week to expand their knowledge in robotics and engineering.”
