18th Annual Academic Awards Program

The 18th annual Allen Academic Awards Program was held Thursday evening, May 9th, in the school auditorium. Students in grades 9-12 were recognized for their academic achievements and scholarly accomplishments.

Jack Todd opened the ceremony and led those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance.

OKLAHOMA HONOR SOCIETY The Oklahoma Honor Society is comprised of the top 10% of the student body in grades 9-12. Grades used to determine eligibility were from the first semester of the current year and the last semester of the previous year. Freshmen grades are based only on the 1st semester. All students had a 4.0 or above.

The students who have earned this award are: Taylor Batey, Kayd Bell, Stoney Cully, Kamlyn Cundiff, Kaylee Davis, Bodee Garrett, Brooklyn Harper, Alex Hill, Grady Holder, Brakstin Horton, Malloree Howard, Kelsey Hurt, Emmett Koonce, Ava Laden, Lily Laden, Easton Ledo, Sedrick Lindsey, Tresley Mowdy, Brailee Nester, Cooper Newberry, Cayser Nickell, Kayla Nickell, Ty O’Daniel, Addison Prentice, Adam Sawatzky, Zoey Sawatzky, Kryslyn Stephens, Brayden Tatum, Jack Todd and Cherish Woodward.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Allen re-instated the National Honor Society this year. Students in grades 10 through 12 were chosen based on cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above and students must be on the collegeprep track.

Recognized for this achievement were: Alexa Bailey, Taylor Batey, Kayd Bell, Elizabeth Boden-Null, Curt Carlos, Stoney Cully, Kamlyn Cundiff, Kaylee Davis, Cami Frederick, Bodee Garrett, Bodrey Goodson, Alex Hill, Brakstin Horton, Kale Horton, Keithon Howard, Malloree Howard, Kelsey Hurt, Aiyana Husband, Mallory Keeney, Emmett Koonce, Ava Laden, Easton Ledo, Sedrick Lindsey, Breanna Nester, Cooper Newberry, Cayser Nickell, Garrett Nix, Ty O’Daniel, Addison Prentice, Cameron Reed, Cash Roberson, Alyssa Royalty, Adam Sawatzky, Ethan Smith, Emma Tomb, Jack Todd, Olivia Wallace, Bryar Wilson, and Cherish Woodward.

SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS Representatives from various colleges and organizations traveled to Allen to present some students with awards and scholarships.

First United Bank Board—Student Bank Board Amy Kaiser from First United Bank of Ada recognized and honored Kelsey Hurt and Olivia Wallace.

Citizens Bank— Student Bank Board Chris Feiler from Citizens Bank in Ada recognized and honored Kamlyn Cundiff, Ava Laden and Jack Kendal Logan from Security State Bank in Holdenville presented scholarships to Malloree Howard, $250, and Ava Laden, $250.

Masonic Lodge Awards

The Masonic Lodge of Allen is a strong supporter of Allen School’s academic initiatives and students’ achievement. Mason Jeff Maloy presented the following awards: Senior Essay Contest: Local Division - Women 3rd Place—Aiyana Husband 2nd Place—Savannah Geyer 1st Place—Kamlyn Cundiff Local Division - Men 1st Place—Jack Todd The Masonic Student of Today award stands for: character, academics, leadership, and general personal and academic development that make them truly outstanding young men and women. The following students were chosen by the faculty: 10th Grade—Addison Prentice and Kayd Bell 12th Grade—Kamlyn Cundiff and Garrett Nix The Masonic Teacher of Today award was presented to Ronna Clark.

Masonic Scholarships, $1000 each, were presented to: Kamlyn Cundiff, Kelsey Hurt, Ava Laden, Garrett Nix, Jack Todd, and Olivia Wallace.

East Central University Catarina Diza, from East Central University awarded the following: Jack Todd - Academic Distinction Scholarship worth $6000 over 4 years; Kayla Brogdon Academic Bronze Scholarship worth $500.

Texoma Chevy A+ Scholarship

On behalf of Texoma Chevy Dealers, one student was nominated for high achievement in both the classroom and on the court and field. She was rewarded with a $1000 scholarship. Congratulations to Ava Laden.

Oklahoma Rural Rehabilitation Corporation

On behalf of the Oklahoma Rural Rehabilitation Corporation, a $250 scholarship for higher education at an Oklahoma Institution to Ava Laden.

Farmers State Bank Farmers State Bank is a big supporter of Allen School. This year seven scholarships worth $500 each were awarded to students who have excelled in academics and leadership.

Receiving the scholarships were Kamlyn Cundiff, Malloree Howard, Kelsey Hurt, Ava Laden, Garrett Nix, Jack Todd, and Olivia Wallace.

Oklahoma Promise Scholars Students who are Oklahoma Promise Scholars must meet the following criteria: 1. Achieve at least a 2.5 cumulative g.p.a.

2. Complete a 17-unit core curriculum The students who meet the requirements and will receive college tuition waivers worth up to $24,000 over 4 years. They are: Aiyana Husband and Olivia Wallace.

Academic Booster Club Students who have a cumulative g.p.a. of 4.0 throughout their high school career and enroll in college next fall each received a scholarship on behalf of the Academic Booster Club worth $200. The students receiving this honor are: Kamlyn Cundiff, Kelsey Hurt, Ava Laden, and Jack Todd.

Allen Alumni Scholarship

Scholarships from the Allen Alumni Association are based on academics and involvement in school activities. $500 scholarships were presented to Malloree Howard, Lance Johnson, Jack Todd and Olivia Wallace.

Pepsi Scholarships One senior from the categories of Athletics and Academics was chosen for a scholarship worth $500 each. This year’s recipients are: Athletic Scholarship Ava Laden; Academic Scholarship - Jack Todd.

University of Oklahoma

From the University of Oklahoma, the following scholarships were awarded to Kelsey Hurt: University Scholarship worth $14,000 over 4 years; Mike & Leslie Dicus Memorial Scholarship worth $1000.

Oklahoma State University

An Academic Excellence Scholarship, worth $1000, was awarded to Olivia Wallace.

Murray State College From Murray State College, scholarships were presented to: Concurrent Tuition Waiver - Sommer Krause, $750; Concurrent TuitionWaiver - Ava Laden, $500; Tuition Waiver Scholarship - Ava Laden, $2000; Tuition Waiver Scholarship - Malloree Howard, $2000.

Redlands Community College Redlands Community College presented their Presidential Scholarship to an Allen student. This scholarship funds up to 16 hours of tuition, $400 for fees and $500 for textbook per semester. This scholarship is worth $12,800 over the next two years. This went to Kamlyn Cundiff.

Oklahoma Youth Expo Scholarship OYE announced that MFM Feeds has awarded a $2500 scholarship based on accomplishments inside the classroom, within her community, and her active participation in the agricultural industry. This scholarship was awarded to Kamlyn Cundiff.

Kamlyn was also recognized for other scholarships that she has received throughout her high school career from showing goats: OYE Scholarships worth $1450; and Ringmasters Night of Champions Scholarship, $1500.

She also received offers of $3,000 from Murray State College and $2000 from Eastern Oklahoma State for a grand total of $7950.

Pontotoc Technology Center Pontotoc Technology Center presented two young men a scholarship that will cover up to $5000 of tuition in the fall: Dillon Blessing and Garrett Nix.

INTERSCHOLASTIC MEETS Due to weather issues and scheduling conflicts, Allen students were only able to compete in one interscholastic meet this year. The students are sponsored by Ronna Clark. The following students placed in the top three and received a medal:

Southeastern Oklahoma State University

Kayd Bell: 1st Place English II Brogen Goodson: 2nd Place - Safety Brooklyn Harper: 3rd Place - English I Kelsey Hurt: 1st Place - General Business; 2nd Place - Psychology Cameron Reed: 1st Place - Integrated Productivity Software Jack Todd: 2nd Place World History ACADEMIC TEAM

The high school academic team is coached by Lesli Costner. These students competed at the District, Regional and Area Tournaments.

Members of the Academic Team that participated this year are: Brooklyn Harper, Christ Hurt, Kelsey Hurt, Lance Johnson, Easton Ledo, Ty O’Daniel, Breanna Nester, Xzavier Parker, Cameron Reed, Cash Roberson, Adam Sawatzky, Austin Stowe, Jack Todd (team captain), and Isabel Velazquez.

MOST USEFUL STUDENT AWARD

The “Most Useful Student” award is given to Allen’s most valuable senior. The recipient of this award is an outstanding allaround student. Some of the qualities of this person include respect for peers and teachers, hard-working, good attendance, and a great attitude. Thanks to Pepsi, this student will receive a $500 scholarship. This year’s recipient is Ava Laden.

HONOR STUDENTS To qualify as a Senior Honor Student, a student must meet the following criteria: 1) Must meet all local and state graduation requirements 2) Must meet the Oklahoma Board of Regents requirements for college admission to a 4-year college.

3) Must have a cumulative 3.5 g.p.a. for the first 7 semesters of high school Those students meeting the criteria are: Kamlyn Cundiff, Keithon Howard, Malloree Howard, Kelsey Hurt, Aiyana Husband, Emmett Koonce, Ava Laden, Easton Ledo, Jack Todd, and Olivia Wallace.

VALEDICTORIAN & SALUTATORIAN Each year the top students in the senior class, according to GPA, are honored. The students with the highest g.p.a. for the first seven semesters of their high school years were selected. In addition to the g.p.a. requirement, students had to meet the criteria of a senior honor student and have attended Allen High School no less than three consecutive semesters. Rep. Ronny Johns also sent Citations to honor these students.

This year’s Valedictorians are Kamlyn Cundiff, Kelsey Hurt, Ava Laden, and Jack Todd.

This year’s Salutatorian is Malloree Howard.

FCCLA

Recognization was given to one high school seniors who has competed in STAR events and has won her event each of those three years at the state level. Last year, she was the National Winner for “Interpersonal Communications”, and she will be competing at Nationals this summer in Seattle, Washington in “Chapter Service Project.” Congratulations to Ava Laden.

FFA

Representative Ronny Johns has sent citations to our two FFA students, Kamlyn Cundiff and Olivia Wallace, for receiving their State Degrees.

Congratulations to Taylor Batey who won a scholarship to attend the Washington D.C. Leadership Conference this summer.

STATE ACADEMIC CHAMPS

Allen’s girls basketball team was named this year’s Class A State Academic Champions. This is a great honor.

OVERALL SCHOLARSHIP VALUE Allen seniors have received or been offered the following amount of scholarship money for the next four years: Approximately $124,550.
