Allen Memorial Day Service Canceled

It’s with regret that the Allen Chamber of Commerce made the decision to cancel the 2020 Memorial Day service at the Allen Cemetery and the Veterans’ Luncheon.

Due to the Corona Virus, the Atwood Cemetery will not hold their regular Memorial Day service. However someone will be at the cemetery collecting money for the upkeep during the holiday weekend, May 22 to 24 . Due to concern over the Corona Virus, the Non Cemetery will not be holding their regular Memorial Day service this year, however the cemetery will be open for people to decorate the graves of their loved ones. Flags will be placed on all veterans’ graves to recognize their dedication to our country and recognize their service.

Anyone who would like to help with the up-keep of the Citra Cemetery may make donation to the cemetery by taking or mailing to Farmers State Bank, Citra Cemetery Fund, PO Box 467, Allen, OK 74825. All donations will be greatly appreciated.

Monday is Memorial Day. Each year at this time I go to the Flanders Field section of our local cemetery to pay tribute to four of my classmates that served in Vietnam, Leonard Harjo, James Sherfield, Dana Muskgrove and Lynn True. Friends and heroes that, in my mind, will be forever young.
