I love books! When I was growing up, I had very little time to read. However, when I did read, I had access to the classics and many other good books because of an aunt who had a son in college, and we received books that he no longer wanted or needed. They were passed on to my family.

My one desire when I was growing up was to be able to read every book that was ever written. I no longer have that desire because I know that can never be accomplished. There are many books written now which do not appeal to me because of the content.

We are so fortunate to have our local library. What a vast number of books it has! When I am there, I find many books that I would like to read and know that I do not have the time and will never get to them. There are also videos, DVD’s, books on tape, local newspapers and the latest magazines. Any book they do not have can be special ordered. The meeting room is available for organizations and the public to use.

There are so many resources available. The computer program there is so appreciated. Once when my computer was down, I was able to go there and check my e-mail. I also have asked others to help me with research when I get stumped.

I once checked out and read The Reagan Diaries, a 767-page book. It contains over 400,000 words. This book is condensed from five volumes of diaries that he wrote while he was President. He started writing these on the day he was inaugurated and wrote every day except days when he was hospitalized. These bound volumes are now in the Reagan Library in California. In reading this book, I find there are many, many references to events that were big news while he was President. This book sheds some light on his thoughts at the time and how he dealt with them. It is very interesting reading.

I could only check this book out for ten days at a time, so it took me several times of rechecking the book out to finish it. I’m so glad I did, because it is one of the best books I’ve read.
