Teams in Semi-Finals of Conference Tourney
The Mustang basketball season started last week and the teams are already making their presence known.
Action started Tuesday, November 27th , when the Wynnewood Savages came to town. Both Allen teams ran to easy victories with the girls taking a 58-37 victory and the boys a 61-44 win.
Thursday night, November 29th , wasn’t nearly as much fun for the Lady Mustangs as they took a loss at the hands of the Calvin Lady Bulldogs here at home. Shantel Potter hit a 3-pointer for Calvin with 15 seconds left on the clock. Allen answered with a pair of free throws lowering the visitors lead to 2, but with only one second left on the clock it just wasn’t to be. The Calvin Lady Bulldogs took the game with a two point lead and drop our ladies to 1-1 on the season.
Kinsey Nix made it to double digits, finishing with 12 points. Sunzie Harrison added nine and Kinlee Cundiff followed with eight.
After the disappointing night a game at Savanna was the cure as Allen girls racked up a 52-34 win.
Harrison was on fire hitting 4 treys on her way to 21 points. Kaylyn Rowsey had a strong performance with 13 points. Jaycee Watkins and Kinsey Nix each added 8 and Calissa Childers added 2
The Lady Mustangs traveled to Asher Monday night for first round action in the Pontotoc Conference Tournament. The local ladies faced off against the Roff Lady Tigers and downed their opponents 36-25.
Kaylyn Rowsey tossed in 10 points and Kinsey Nix added 9; Jaycee Watkins shot a couple of 3-point baskets and Sunzie Harrison did her part as both girls scored 6 for the Lady Mustangs.
Now 3-1 on the season, the locals led 13-6 after the first quarter and took a 15-7 lead into halftime. The third quarter was all Allen as they shut out Roff in a 14-0 run, increasing the lead to 29-7. The Lady Tigers outscored Allen in the fourth but the local ladies held on for the 36-25 win.
The Lady Mustangs travel back to Asher this evening (Thursday, December 6th ) for a rematch with Calvin
The Allen Mustangs are holding a 3-0 record after defeating Wynnewood, Calvin and Stonewall.
The season opener against the Wynnewood Savages gave the boys a 61-44 win.. The Mustangs are currently ranked #14 in class 2A.
Thursday proved to be an easy win for the locals as they passed the Calvin Bulldogs 83-33.
The Mustangs took control right from the start, rolling to 25-11 in the first quarter and 45-15 by halftime. The third quarter surge expanded the lead to 72-24 with the fourth quarter fi nishing off their opponent.
Hunter Simpson led the locals with 22 points followed by Chad Milne with 17. Taydn Walker scored 12 by sinking four 3-point shots. Chris Holcomb and Nathan Hammonds each added 10.
The Allen men had a little bit of a struggle but came out with 55-50 win over Savanna. Hunter Simpson muscled his way to 16 points. Chris Holcomb was strong from the charity stripe and added 13 points, Kaden Mills 11, Chad Milne 9, Aaron Dockery 5 and Nathan Hammonds 1.
Traveling to Asher didn’t slow down the local boys as they ran past the Stonewall Longhorns.
The first quarter showed a narrow 14-11 lead but outscoring Stonewall in the send took them into the locker room at halftime with a 24-13 lead. They outscored the Longhorns in the third quarter 17-9 and in the fourth 24-14 giving them the 65-35 win.
Nathan Hammonds sank seven 3-point shots, scoring 21 on the night. Chad Milne was good for 13 points and Hunter Simpson added 10 for the Mustangs. Kaden Mills and Aaron Dockrey each scored 7.
The Mustangs will be back in Asher action tomorrow night as they take the court in semifinal action at 6:40 pm against Roff.
Championship Friday games: Finals begins at 5:30 for girls and 7 pm for boys.
