Teams Check District off their Playoff list
Regionals Start Thursday
We are the Champions! Both Allen teams kept the District crown at home as they deafeated Tushka Saturday night.
In the girls contest Allen jumped out to an early lead and battled a strong quarter from Tushka to own a 27-25 lead at the half. The third quarter the Lady Mustangs caught fire and went on to the 51-36 win. Allen used 4 players to score the 51 points, lead by Kinsey Nix with 23 points, Kaylyn Rowsey added 15 points (three 3-pointers), Calissa Childers 11 and Kinlee Cundiff 2. “Im not sure what happened in the second quarter where Tushka made a run at us, but we came out strong in the third to seal the win,” said coach Dottie Slabaugh.
In the men’s contest Allen outscored Tushka in every quarter sealed the championship 69-44. Chad Milne scored a game high 28 points, Nathan Hammonds 15, Gage Holder 10, Rylan Black 6, Beckett Wells 3, Tagus Howard 3 and Taylor Wood 3. “I was pretty happy with our defense, they had some pretty big boys but we held all their players to single digits. We spread the ball around and got a lot players in the scoring column which is always good.” said Coach Greg Mills.
The win finds the Mustangs back home Thursday night for first round of Regionals. Both teams face Luther. The Luther girls are currently ranked #16 while the Lady Mustangs are ranked #18. Both girls teams hold identical records of 18-6. Coach Slabaugh said “I see a lot of similarities between us, they have about three scorers that can put up some big numbers, but I feel that we have a good game plan for them.” On the boys side Luther comes in with a 15-10 record while the Allen men are sitting at 18-7. “We have been playing pretty well here lately, we have stretched our bench pretty thin, but when I have called on them they have produced,” said Mills Game times tonight
Game times tonight (Thursday) girls 6:30 and boys 8:00. The teams would apprecate a large vocal crown in their final home outing. Winners of these games will play Saturday night at Dale and losers will play Friday night.
