Mustangs Slosh Over Wewoka

Posted in:

Mud Bowl ‘18 was played Saturday night on a rain soaked fi eld in Allen. The contest postponed from the monsoon on Friday had the Mustangs hosting district rival Wewoka. Allen came away with the 33-12 win.

“The ball was slick and it took us a little while to be able to fi nd the handle, but when we did our running game kicked into gear,”. Our line opened up some good running lanes and we were off to the races. The Mustangs racked up 461 yards rushing on the night on 52 carries.

Wewoka stuck fi rst on a punt return in the second quarter. Then there was a lot of mud wrestling for about a quarter before the Mustang defense pinned the Tigers on their goal line and forced a fumble Allen jumped on and knotted the score at 6.

The second half the Mustangs came out and ran up and down the fi eld on Wewoka. Aaron Dockery hit paydirt 2 times and rushed for 179 yards. Trapper Simpson had 192 yards of rushing and added a touchdown. Airyn Knighten added a score and had a touchdown. Chisum Lee had 19 yards and Wyatt Murphy added

13. The Mustangs were penalized 6 times for 60 yards hand had 22 first downs.

Defensively the Mustangs played a tough game. Limiting Wewoka to 194 yards of offense.

“A district win is always a great way to start, we knew with the fi eld conditions we would have to rely on a strong defense and good rushing attack and we got both,” said Coach Caldwell. “By the end of the game our line were covered from head to toe in mud, but they loved it.”

This Friday is also a district game as the Mustangs travel to Wynnewood for a 7 o’clock kickoff. Wynnewood comes in the game with a 3-1 record with wins over Elmore City, Velma and Konawa. The Savages are a high powered offense and are averaging over 38 points a game. They run the ball more than they pass. “All the district games are important so we need to go up there and play error free football and of course capitalize on their mistakes. They are a good team but we have worked hard this week in practice and will be ready.”
