Mustangs slosh over Konawa

Posted in:

Touchdowns by Hunter Simpson and Airyn Knighten gave the Mustangs a 13-6 district win over the Konawa Tigers this past Friday evening, October 12th . Wyatt Murphy, who rushed for 120 yards on 20 carries, help set up the end zone plays.

Simpson made a 7-yard run, followed by a Brandon Roniss point-after-kick, to start Allen off to a 7-0 fi rst quarter lead.

It took three quarters before Konawa fi nally got on the board with a 24-yard run. The PAT failed, leaving the score at 7-6. Then, later in the third, Allen answered back with Knighten’s 28-yard scoring run. The extra-point kick was no good, but the seven-point margin was enough for the Mustang victory.

Allen, 4-3 on the season and 3-1 in the district, overcame three lost fumbles.

“We were very proud of our guys. Defensively, we made some big stops, especially in the red zone,” said Allen defensive coordinator Zach Sullivan. “Our offense did a good job of running the football and moving the chains. Overall, it was a physical battle between two good teams.”

A stout Allen defense was led by Knighten’s 13 tackles. Teammate Josh Huffstutler recorded eight tackles, including a pair of quarterback sacks, and Chisum Lee was also in on eight tackles and registered one sack. Aaron Dockrey and Boone Brecheen totaled seven tackles each. Murphy and Simpson each compiled six tackles, as Simpson also deflected a pass. Rylan Black forced a fumble and made a recovery to go with his five tackles. Colton Howard and Colton Dyer also had fi ve stops apiece.

Besides Murphy’s 120 yards, Lee, Trapper Simpson and Knighten totaled 30 yards each on the ground and Hunter Simpson had seven on a pair of tries, including the TD.

Allen hosts Mounds tonight with a Thursday game due to Fall Break. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
