The Allen Mustangs lost their second district game of the season Friday to the Wynnewood Savages by a score of 43-26.

The first quarter did not go well for the Mustangs. An early Allen fumble led to a Wynnewood touchdown.

Then, just before the end of the quarter, the Savages kicked a field goal to make the score 10-0, Wynnewood. With about nine minutes to go in the fi rst half, Wynnewood scored again. A successful PAT kick brought the score to 17-0.

After an Allen drive, senior Airyn Knighten scored on a three-yard rush. Junior Clayton Shackelford kicked the PAT, closing the gap to 17-7.

But Wynnewood quickly responded with another touchdown, but an unsuccessful two-point conversion attempt failed, making the score 23-7 before the end of the half.

Most of the third quarter remained scoreless until a series of back-and-forth possessions.

After driving to Allen’s 19-yard line, the Savages missed a field goal and turned the ball over on downs.

The Mustangs fumbled the ball on the ensuing drive, however, and Wynnewood took possession on the Allen 18-yard line.

Airyn Knighten then recovered a Wynnewood fumble and returned it to the Allen 30-yard line.

Shortly after, Allen senior quarterback Kason Smith connected with senior Boone Brecheen for a huge 70-yard passing touchdown.

After a successful PAT kick by Clayton Shackelford, Allen was back in the game at the end of the third quarter, 23-14.

However, the fourth quarter proved to be disastrous for the Mustangs’ defense as Wynnewood scored 20 more points.

The Savages scored a touchdown and PAT quickly in the quarter, bringing the score to 30-14.

However, the Mustangs quickly responded with a touchdown of their own when Kason Smith connected with Airyn Knighten for a big 60-yard touchdown. After a failed two-point conversion, the score was 30-20, Wynnewood.

But that was as close as Allen got before the end of the game, as the Savages were up 43-20 before the Mustangs’ next score when Smith passed to Brecheen for a 10-yard touchdown.

The Mustangs (2-3/0-2) will travel to Mounds Friday to battle the Liberty Tigers (1-4/0-2). The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
