Mustangs blanked by Golden Eagles
The Allen Mustangs faced a tough foe in the Mounds Golden Eagles Friday and lost by a score of 48-0. At Mounds, in cold and rainy conditions, the game was quite competitive through most of the fi rst half. A few minutes into the first quarter, as Mounds was closing in on the red zone, the Golden Eagles fumbled the ball. Senior Colton Dyer recovered the fumble on Allen’s 24-yard line. However, the Mustangs’ drive stalled, and they had to punt. On Mounds’ ensuing drive, the team turned the ball over on downs. Allen was in scoring position, but fumbled the ball and turned over possession on the Mounds 17-yard line. However, Mounds wound up punting the ball just before the quarter ended. After a couple of more back and forth possessions, disaster struck for the Mustangs when the Golden Eagles got a pick 6. After a good PAT kick, the score was 7-0 with about 5 minutes to go in the half. The Mustangs’ ensuing drive was unsuccessful, and they had to punt the ball. With less than a minute left in the half, Mounds scored again on a rushing touchdown. After a failed PAT kick, the halftime score was 13-0, Golden Eagles. In the third quarter, there were several back and forth possessions before Mounds scored two touchdowns in the last four minutes of the period. And the hits just kept coming as Mounds scored three more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make the fi nal score 48-0. The Mustangs (3-5/1-4) will host undefeated Stroud Friday. This is the final home and seniors will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony at 6:30 pm. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00. Statistics were unavailable for the Allen/Mounds game.
