Lady Mustang Softball Ranked 4th in Class A
The Lady Mustangs stayed at #4 in the rankings with wins over Holdenville, Roff, Bennington and Stonewall. The Lady Mustangs have been fi nding ways to win with strong defense and pitching. Their 14-1 record has been drawing the attention of several and they have recieved 3 first place votes. The Lady Mustangs end the week with the Roff Tournament. On Monday, yes Labor Day the high school and junior high will travel to Stuart for a noon set of games and return home on Tuesday to face Latta at4:30
Riley Throws Shutout as Allen Defeats Bennington
Riley Koonce shut down Bennington, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Allen to a 8-0 victory on Tuesday Allen got things moving in the first inning, when Koonce doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. Allen notched four runs in the second inning. Allen’s big bats in the inning were led by a triple by Katey Read, a single by Kinsey Nix, and an error on a ball put in play by Sunzie Harrison. A single by Ruddy in the second inning was a positive for Bennington. Koonce pitched Allen to victory. She lasted seven innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out three and walking zero. Allen totaled ten hits in the game. Read, Nix, Koonce, and Meegan Costner each racked up multiple hits for Allen. Koonce had a double While Read had a triple.
Allen Nabs Win Over Stonewall
Allen managed through a push by Stonewall in the first inning where Allen coughed up four runs, but Allen still won 7-6 on Monday. Stonewall batters contributing to the big inning included Heath, Chamberlain, and Sliger, who each had RBIs in the inning. The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game. Allen collected four hits and Stonewall had nine. Allen pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third an error scored one run for Allen and Kinsey Nix singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Riley Koonce was the winning pitcher for Allen. She surrendered six runs on nine hits over seven innings, striking out four. Chamberlain took the loss for Stonewall. She went six innings, allowing seven runs on four hits and striking out four. Maddy Clifford, Meegan Costner, Nix, and Kaylyn Rowsey all had one hit to lead Allen. And Clifford had an RBI and Nix had a stolen base. Stonewall tallied nine hits. Hayes and Heath all collected multiple hits for Stonewall.
Allen Shuts Out Roff
Allen got on the board in the first inning when Sunzie Harrison singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Koonce took the win for Allen. She surrendered zero runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking zero. Allen tallied nine hits. Kinsey Nix and Maddy Clifford each collected multiple hits for Allen. Nix went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Allen in hits. Nix, Clifford, Harrison and Taylor Tollett had RBI’s.
Allen Downs Holdenville, 5-2
Allen wins contest against Holdenville on Tuesday, 5-2 Allen got things started in the first inning. Katey Read grounded out, scoring one run. Allen tallied four runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught came from groundouts by Kaylyn Rowsey and Stevi Caldwell, a single by Maddy Clifford, and an error on a ball put in play by Read. Riley Koonce earned the victory in the pitcher’s circle for Allen. She surrendered two runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out two and walking one. Factor took the loss for Holdenville. She went seven innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out fi ve. The Lady Mustangs totaled eight hits in the game. Sunzie Harrison, Rowsey, and Kinsey Nix all managed multiple hits for Allen. Harrison led Allen with three hits in four at bats.
