Basketball festivals will benefi t Allen kids
Allen elementary students are currently taking part in a series of basketball festivals that should be lots of fun to watch, Allen Elementary School Principal Jeff Hiatt said.
Hiatt said the basketball game festivals are for students in kindergarten, first, second, third and fourth grades. “It’ll be a full night (for each festival), but it will be fun,” Hiatt said. “We lower the goals.”
Hiatt is encouraging everyone to attend and help cheer on the kids, especially at Allen home games. Money raised at the Allen home games will be placed into an elementary account and will be used for fi eld trips, etc., for Allen elementary students.
The games will be played by students from several area schools. Each schools’ home games will be a fundraiser for that school.
In a letter sent to parents October 9th , Hiatt wrote, “Our kids are practicing basketball each day in the gym learning fundamentals as well as other PE activities. Every game is optional and parents will need to provide transportation for the kids to the game. We will provide jerseys at each game.”
The first festival -- between Allen and Stonewall elementary students -- was held at Stonewall October 22nd .
