Allen Wins on the Road
The Allen Mustangs beat the Liberty Tigers 42-6 Friday night to earn their first district win of the season.
First quarter
Allen began the drubbing early in the game when senior Airyn Knighten scored a touchdown on a 70-yard run. The PAT kick, however, was unsuccessful.
At about six minutes into the game, senior quarterback Kason Smith connected with senior Boone Brecheen for an 81-yard touchdown pass. However, the following two-point conversion attempt failed.
Allen went up 20-0 after Smith again connected with Brecheen for a touchdown pass, and Airyn Knighten then rushed for a two-point conversion.
With about two minutes to go in the fi rst quarter, Liberty turned the ball over on downs. From their own 30-yard line, Allen quickly drove the field and scored on a 13-yard rushing touchdown by Knighten.
The score was 27-0 after a successful PAT kick.
Second quarter
With about eight minutes to go in the half, Knighten intercepted a Liberty pass at the Tigers’ 23-yard line. Kason Smith then scored a 23-yard touchdown on a quarterback keeper.
Allen missed the following PAT kick, however.
During the following drive, Allen recovered a Liberty fumble. After driving from Liberty’s 46-yard line down to the 10, the Mustangs turned the ball over on downs.
As Liberty was attempting to get out of a tight spot, senior Colton Dyer sacked the Tigers’ quarterback for a safety.
After receiving the free kick, Allen wasted no time in scoring again, that time on a 24-yard pass from Kason Smith to sophomore Gerison Johnson. A successful PAT kick by junior Clayton Shackelford made the score 42-0, Allen, at the half.
