Allen drops district opener at Wewoka
The Allen Mustangs played their fi rst district game of the season Friday, and lost to the Wewoka Tigers by a score of 62-32.
Allen received the ball first. However, the drive failed and Allen was forced to punt.
Wewoka scored a touchdown on its ensuing drive. After a successful PAT kick, the score was 7-0, Wewoka.
The Mustangs responded with a touchdown of their own. The two-point conversion attempt failed, however.
Allen then had a great opportunity after senior Boone Brecheen intercepted a Wewoka pass, giving the Mustangs great field position on the Tigers’ 40-yard line. However, a Mustangs fumble resulted in the Tigers getting the ball back. Wewoka promptly scored a touchdown and, after a good PAT kick, the score was 14-6 at the end of the fi rst quarter.
But early in the second quarter, Allen scored on a rushing touchdown. The two-point conversion attempt failed, however, making the score 14-12, Wewoka.
But it wasn’t long before the Tigers scored again in attempt to pull away from the Mustangs. Wewoka completed a pass for the two-point conversion to make the score 22-12.
Allen was quick to respond with a rushing touchdown by senior quarterback Kason Smith to make the score 22-18, Wewoka.
However, with about eight minutes left in the first half, Wewoka scored a touchdown and subsequent two-point conversion to make the score 30-18.
Allen was attempting to score again, but a Wewoka interception brought the drive to an end just before halftime.
The third quarter proved to be a debacle for Allen as the Tigers scored 19 unanswered points to make the score 49-18.
Allen continued to battle throughout the fourth quarter and scored 14 more points, but Wewoka also scored 14 points to end the game, 62-32.
The Mustangs (2-2/0-1) will battle another district foe Friday when they welcome the Wynnewood Savages to town (1-3/1-0).
