Allen City Council Meets

Posted in:

The Allen city council met Monday for their regular January meeting. Members attending were Dianna Brannnan, Rhonda Skelton and Mike Todd. Del Johnson and April Whitehead were absent.

After minutes and claims were approved Dean Taylor approached the board about his new Medical Marijuana grow facility. Location and security of the building was discussed. While Allen doesn’t not currently ordinances and fees set for such facilities it discussed with Mr Taylor the possibility of fees down the line. Mr Taylor brought his documentation where he has his State Commercial license. The business is moving from their current location in Ada.

During the December meeting a representative from US Cellular approached the board about them installing a booster tower inside the city limits. The booster would increase cellular signal but more imporantantly intended to bolster their internet service to the area. During that meeting location and frequencies were discussed. Between the monthly meetings City Manager visited Ada and McAlester where US Celluar is already constructing the towers. The boosters are an antenna mounted on an approximately 40 ft pole. The company has come up with 2 possible locations in town, one by the water tower and one on Broadway. While there were discussions about 2 locations and it was decided that pending US Cellular’s test we would weigh which location to choose. The City Council felt that with the towns current limited cell and internet service this would be a great opportunity to improve in that area so the offer to erect the antenna was approved pending approval of a contract.

The fire department asked to file to use county fire tax money for a new vehicle. The Allen fire department has started answering medical calls and felt it would be better to designate a vehicle for that use instead of using a fi re truck to make the calls. county funds to purchase a 2020 4x4 Ford Expedition. A state bid price was quoted as $42,497. The board approved to submit the request to the county.
