One Pharmacist’s View

Esthetics Anyone? Uh, No.

I used to enjoy (to a lesser extent) reading George Will. Will, a very verbose speaker and writer of our times, is sometimes a hard read, at least for me. His uncommon use of words and verbiage to make a point or two sometimes leaves me not just puzzled but amazed. His mastery of language far exceeds mine but when a subject gets pretty complicated, he’s worth a careful read. Especially when he writes about Trump and impeachment. Democrats and Republicans would both be wise to lend an ear to George. He calls the idea of Presidential Impeachment “One of the constitution’s most solemn powers.”

And he may be right, since he usually is. Will says the purpose of impeachment is prophylactic not punitive. Will acknowledges that he thinks President Trump’s behavior has been at the least “boorish” and that the President has been fast and loose with the truth. In short, Donald Trump is guilty of acting “Unprofessionally” while he has been in offi ce. So what are we to make of him?

Donald Trump, in other words has been rejected in advance by liberals. He was DOA by most standards that govern liberal thought. And the Senate Republicans scampering here and there around the ankles of Trump are implausible critics, or as George Will calls them “hygienists.” So what are we the voters to think? Of course, President Trump’s mainline supporters will quickly say that “He is exactly what we wanted.” These people enjoy the blue collar language Trump uses to discuss complex issues about immigration, Kim Jong Uh, Putin and China’s leadership. They have come to accept and forgive in advance his exorbitant fibs and Bronx dialect he uses sometimes when he describes his latest exploits and the deficiencies of his foes. In short, they like him like he is.

Did Trump bring about all this political division? Not really. Democrats were primed for an easy victory when this upstart guy stole their election. Again, not really. Democrats were in a state of denial. The voters didn’t want Hillary and there stood Trump. Like most, I told myself and friends, to not worry. He would straighten out after a few weeks in office. His appointees would clue him in and prep him on how to be President. Boy, was I ever wrong. The new President has luxuriated in the White House and if anyone disputed him or tried to make him a little more “Presidential” he just fired them.

I think most of us held our breaths when the President met with Putin, Kim and the Japanese Prime Minister. Double worry when he went to meet the Queen this week. I hope they don’t show him the new little baby boy from Prince Harry. If they do, I hope he doesn’t think it’s ugly. While he was over there not looking at the Prince’s new baby, a swarm of hundreds of illegals waded the Rio — this time they were all from Africa. Let’s all hope that his Xenophobic impulses are recessive on this. Lord help him if they’re not.

Meanwhile, political “experts” are going nuts trying to figure out how a slow runner named Biden will run against this political rouge named Donald. Should be exciting times for America. Last week, Franklin Graham (the preacher) asked 252 pastors and Christians to pray for Donald Trump. Looks like Billy Graham’s son is getting nervous too.

Be sure and go to church Sunday and you may pray for whomever you please. And thanks again to those who take the time to write.
