Mustangs Trample Wolverines

The Mustang men handed Holdenville a whopping 40 points loss Tuesday night with the 77-37 win.

Actually, the first half of the game was a little closer as Allen hit the locker-room with a 38-23 lead. After the half the Mustangs found their shot and exploded for a 26 point third period and finished the game with a 13-9 run.

Sophomore Brayden Tatum almost outscored Holdenville single-handedly with 35 points. Garrett Nix added 20 points, Jake Beavert 12, Cayser Nickell 3, Easton Ledo 5, Tagus Howard 2.

“I think for the first game back after the break we played pretty well,” said Coach Greg Mills. “We were able to get in a few scrimmages over the break which helped a lot. Defensively we played good and that set up a lot of our offense”.

The Mustangs head to Alex for the Longhorn Classic Tournament. The Allen men face Stratford in the opening round at 3:00 on Thursday. Next week the team travel to Kiowa on Tuesday, then to Vanoss for a conference game on the 18 th . The teams don’t return the local gym until January 25 when they will host Stuart.

Lady Mustangs Win 44-41

The start of the Lady Mustangs game Tuesday evening, January 4 th , against the Holdenville Lady Wolverines had fans worried but ending had them celebrating a 3-point win. Final score was 44-41.

Coach Slabaugh said about Tuesday’s game, “We didn’t get out to a great start but we continued to fight through. The Defense only allowed 15 secondhalf points, which allowed us to complete the comeback.

“Ava Laden hit a pair of 3’s in the first quarter that gave us some momentum. We had trailed 11-2 in that quarter. Kaylee Davis had a big second half for us with all 11 of her points, including three 3’s, coming in that half.”

The Ladies will take on Asher this Thursday, 1:40 p.m. in the Alex “Longhorn Classic” tournament.

Scoring for Allen were Kaylee Davis, 11 points; Ava Laden, 11 points; Stoney Cully, 5 points; Maggie Yarbrough, 8 points; Maycee Davis, 2 points; Alexis Slabaugh, 4 points; and Brooklyn Sanders, 3 points.
