Mustangs Trample Cougars
The Allen Mustangs rushed their way to victory last Friday, September 17 th , over the Canadian Cougars to win the final game before district play.
Canadian received the ball first, but the Mustangs defense forced a punt.
Allen was quick to score on a 75-yard rushing touchdown by Shawn Husband. Brayden Tatum then rushed in for the two-point conversion to make it 8-0, Mustangs.
The Cougars drove the field on their following possession, which included a long run to the Allen 15 yard line.
However, Allen’s defense held, and the Cougars turned the ball over on downs at the Mustangs’ nine yard line near the end of the first quarter.
The Mustangs drove the field and scored on a pass from Tatum to Easton Ledo. The twopoint conversion attempt failed, however, leaving the score at 14-0, Allen.
The Mustangs scored again with about eight minutes left in the first half on a three-yard rushing touchdown by Husband to make the score 22-0 after a successful two-point conversion.
Second Half
About four minutes into the third quarter, Allen began a drive at its own 30 yard line after a Canadian punt.
The Mustangs chewed up about six minutes -- and 70 yards -- while driving the field before scoring on a 28-yard rush by Husband. The TPC attempt failed, however, making the score 28-0, Allen.
Beginning late in the third quarter and continuing into the fourth, the Cougars put together their best drive of the game and scored on a two yard rushing touchdown. After a successful two-point conversion, the score was 28-8, Allen.
But the Mustangs went on to score on the ensuing drive with a huge 64-yard rush by Shawn Husband. The two-point conversion attempt, however, was unsuccessful, leaving the final score at 34-8, Mustangs.
Allen (2-1) will host the Mounds Golden Eagles (2-1) this Friday, September 24 th , for the first district game of the season for both teams. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
