The Allen Mustangs faced a tough foe in Okemah Friday night, and came out on the losing end.

The undefeated Panthers -- ranked second in Oklahoma Class A -- held the Mustangs to just 152 total yards.

Okemah was first to put points on the scoreboard. After receiving a Mustangs punt at their own 34 yard line, the Panthers drove the field and scored on a 25-yard touchdown pass with about four minutes left in the first quarter, then added a two-point conversion to make it 8-0.

The Panthers went on to score again, early in the second quarter, but failed on the two-point conversion attempt, making it 14-0.

However, the Mustangs also scored in the second quarter to stay in the game.

After stopping the Okemah offense and forcing a punt, the Mustangs started a drive on their own 26 yard line.

On first and 10, the Mustangs made no gain, but quarterback Brayden Tatum ran to to the Allen 38 yard line on second down, earning a new set of downs in the process.

Quinton Walker rushed to the 41 for a three-yard gain, then, on second and seven, Tagus Howard rushed to the 50 yard line for another Mustangs first down.

Emmett Koonce rushed for three yards, then Tatum kept the ball and gained 15 yards.

Shawn Husband gained three yards on first down, and Tatum gained another five on second down.

Tatum then ran for five more yards for a first down at the Okemah 19. Shawn Husband rushed the ball for three yards before Tatum kept the ball for 16 yards and what appeared to be a touchdown, but the Mustangs were called for holding.

Quinton Walker rushed for two yards on second and 14, then on third and 12, Tatum ran for 17 yards to the Okemah four yard line. A defensive personal foul on the play moved the ball to the Panthers’ two yard line.

After no gain on first down, then a one-yard gain on second, Tatum rushed the ball into the end zone for the touchdown to cap off what was undoubtedly Allen’s best drive of the night.

The two-point conversion -- a pass from Tatum to Coyt Bell -- was good, making the score 14-8, Okemah.

But that was Allen’s only score, and the Panthers went on to score six points in the third quarter and eight more in the fourth to make the final score 36- 8.

The Mustangs (2-3/0-2) will host for a homecoming contest against Liberty Friday to take on the Tigers (0-5/0-2). The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
