The Allen Mustangs lost a heartbreaker Friday night to the Liberty Tigers.

The Tigers, previously winless, held the Mustangs to just 190 yards of total offense. However, Allen starting quarterback Brayden Tatum did not play, due to injury.

The Mustangs were first to put points on the board.

In the first quarter, on their third drive attempt, the Mustangs advanced across much of the field on just two plays.

From the Allen 47 yard line, on fourth and 27, quarterback Quinn Corumm connected with Coyt Bell for 30 yards to the Liberty 23 yard line.

On first and 10, Shawn Husband ran the ball 23 yards right into the end zone. The two-point conversion attempt was no good, however, making it 6-0, Mustangs.

Liberty answered in the second quarter, and took the lead after a successful PAT kick, 7-6.

The Tigers scored again with a few minutes left in the half. After a successful two-point conversion, the score was 15-6, Liberty.

But the Mustangs stayed in the game by scoring about two minutes before halftime.

After a Liberty punt, Davyn Wilson returned the ball 10 yards to the Tigers’ 45 yard line.

The Mustangs lost a yard on first down, but Emmett Koonce gained four on a second-down run. On third and seven at the Liberty 42, Shawn Husband took a handoff and ran the ball all the way to the house for a touchdown.

A two-point conversion attempt failed, however, leaving the halftime score at 15-12.

Second Half

Neither team scored in the third quarter, but Allen regained the lead early in the fourth on a 14-yard rushing touchdown by Husband.

The two-point conversion was unsuccessful, and the score was 18-15, Allen.

But with about two minutes left in the game, Liberty scored a touchdown after a long drive. The final score was 23-18 after a successful two-point conversion.

Allen (2-4/0-3) will travel to Stroud today (Thursday, October 14 th ) to take on the Tigers (3-3/3-0). The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Quinn Corumm completed five of 11 passes for 34 yards.

Coyt Bell caught one pass for 30 yards; Quinton Walker had three grabs for six yards; and Davyn Wilson caught one pass for negative two yards.
